Box Truss Lift Complete at MCAS Miramar
Harper’s team at MCAS Miramar completed a 400,000 pound box truss lift. The lift created the framework of what will be the first bay for the F-35 Hangar. Because of the large size of the structure, spanning over two hundred feet, the truss was erected on the ground and lifted into place. The lift required two cranes, one of which was stationary, while the other crane “walked” forward with the truss. Once the cranes moved and held the truss in place, ironworkers bolted hundreds of connections to secure the structure. The entire process was well organized and ran by some of the best ironworkers in the industry, steel erection contractor Derr & Gruenewald Construction, LLC. This process will be repeated for the second bay in the coming months.
